About

Located within Picayune Strand State Forest in Collier County, Horseshoe Equestrian Group Camp sits about 2 miles east of Naples in the heart of the Big Cypress Basin. This primitive equestrian facility serves as the eastern trailhead for the Belle Meade Tract's 22-mile trail system, part of the Florida Forest Service Trailtrotter Program. The 74,168-acre forest is a mosaic of cypress strands, wet prairie, pine flatwoods, and subtropical hardwood hammocks, with much of this hydric forest underwater during the wet season. The group campground provides 2 horse stalls with the site rental, with 17 additional stalls available separately. The facility includes fire rings, picnic tables, and portable restrooms. A pavilion is available for day use only. The campground can accommodate large horse trailers but offers no potable water or electrical hookups; non-potable water is available at the horse stalls for equine use. All horses must have current negative Coggins test results, with proof carried by riders at all times. Beyond the extensive equestrian trails, the campground provides access to 10 miles of hiking and biking trails. Wildlife viewing and bird watching opportunities abound in this diverse ecosystem, which features remnant South Florida slash pines over 100 years old in the northern Belle Meade Tract. The forest's location in the Big Cypress Basin provides a unique camping experience in one of Florida's most ecologically significant areas.
