Special Weather Statement issued February 12 at 4:36AM EST by NWS Miami FL
Areas of fog...some locally dense...are developing across portions of the area. Visibilities have dropped below 1 mile in some locations, and are likely continue decreasing, with localized areas experiencing reduced visibilities to one-half of a mile at times. Fog will likely persist through the early morning hours after sunrise. If lower visibilities materialize, a dense fog advisory will be needed. Motorists are advised to drive with caution this morning as visibilities may widely vary over short distances. Use low beam headlights and leave extra distance between your vehicle and others on the road when encountering significant reductions in visibility. Allow extra time to travel to destinations.
About
Horseshoe Primitive Hunt Camp Picayune Strand Forest is a primitive camping facility located within the 78,000-acre Picayune Strand State Forest in Collier County, approximately 8 miles east of Naples. This campground is specifically designated for licensed hunters of the Picayune Strand Wildlife Management Area and serves as an eastern trailhead for the forest's extensive trail system. The campground features 12 primitive campsites with a mix of tent-only and RV/tent sites accommodating up to 5 people each. Basic amenities include fire rings, picnic tables, and portable restrooms, with non-potable water available on-site but no potable water or electric hookups. Some sites have driveways up to 50 feet. A pavilion and 20 uncovered horse stalls are available for equestrians using the adjacent 22-mile trail system that's part of the Florida Forest Service Trailtrotter Program. Picayune Strand State Forest lies in the heart of the Big Cypress Basin and consists of a mosaic of cypress strands, wet prairie, pine flatwoods, and subtropical hardwood hammocks. The forest is mostly underwater during the wet season and provides habitat for numerous wildlife species. Recreational opportunities include hunting, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, and wildlife viewing in this unique South Florida ecosystem that was once part of a failed development and is now undergoing significant ecological restoration.
