Pine Ridge Campground occupies a forested setting within Itasca State Park, a 32,000-acre preserve containing over 100 lakes and Minnesota's most iconic natural landmark: the Mississippi River headwaters. The campground features 158 campsites spread across multiple loops, with the Oak and Spruce loops offering electric hookups while the back portions provide more secluded, non-electric sites in heavily wooded terrain. Campers have access to modern amenities including bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers, potable water spigots, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site. A dump station is available seasonally. Select sites with hookups remain open year-round for winter camping, though bathhouses close and water is shut off during winter months; outhouses serve winter campers. Beyond camping, the park offers over 49 miles of hiking trails, a paved bike path, fishing on numerous lakes, and the opportunity to wade across the Mississippi River at its source. The historic Douglas Lodge provides dining options, and the Jacob V. Brower Visitor Center offers interpretive programs.
