Elk Lake Group Camp

Open — Open seasonally from May through November. Currently closed for winter.

About

Elk Lake Group Camp offers a remote wilderness experience within Minnesota's oldest state park, Itasca. Reached via the winding, one-way Wilderness Drive through towering pines, this primitive group camp accommodates up to 50 people with two vault toilets, a hand-pump water source, screened shelter, picnic tables, and a fire ring. The site accepts both tents and RVs, though no electricity is available. Steps lead directly from camp to the shore of 303-acre Elk Lake, one of only 25 sentinel lakes in Minnesota. Anglers can fish for walleye, perch, bass, bluegill, northern pike, and the prized muskellunge. The camp is less than a half mile from the Elk Lake public boat launch for canoeing, kayaking, and boating. The Nicollet Trail begins just feet from the campground for hiking. The remote location and mature pine forest create a tranquil atmosphere perfect for groups seeking solitude in Minnesota's wilderness. Reservations are required through the Minnesota DNR.
