Air Quality Alert issued June 6 at 11:06AM CDT by NWS Grand Forks ND
* WHAT...The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an Air Quality Alert for ozone pollution. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to reach the Orange or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category. * WHERE...Southern, central, and western Minnesota. * WHEN...Until 11 PM CDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, children and older adults, and people who are active outdoors, may experience health effects. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Ground-level ozone is expected to be high Saturday and Sunday afternoon across much of Minnesota. Mostly sunny skies, warm temperatures, and low humidity will provide a favorable environment for two types of pollutants (volatile organic compounds and nitrogen oxides) to react with sunlight in the air to produce ground-level ozone. The ozone levels will decrease after sunset Saturday and be lower Sunday morning before increasing again Sunday afternoon. Consider moving outdoor activities outside of the afternoon hours.
About
Bert's Cabins is a collection of twelve distinctive cabins tucked beneath towering red and white pines along scenic Wilderness Drive in Itasca State Park, Minnesota's oldest state park. Located approximately one mile west of the Mississippi Headwaters, the property was originally established as a family resort in 1939 and was acquired by the Minnesota DNR in 2018. The cabins retain their classic charm with knotty pine interiors while offering modern comforts. Each cabin features a fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, range, toaster, coffee maker, cookware, and tableware. Climate control includes both heat and air conditioning. Wireless internet is available though signal strength varies by location. Cabins range from one to three bedrooms with occupancy from 2 to 8 guests, and most include full-size sofa beds in the living area. Eleven of the twelve cabins have fire rings with cooking grates; Cabin 3 is the exception. Cabin 12 features distinctive log construction. The location provides excellent access to Itasca State Park's extensive trail network for hiking and biking, fishing opportunities across the park's 100+ lakes, and interpretive programs. Two parking spots are provided per cabin. Note that the cabins do not have lake views or direct lake access.
