Special Weather Statement issued May 22 at 11:08AM EDT by NWS Gaylord MI
The combination of dry surface conditions, low afternoon relative humidity values, and gusty east to southeast winds will result in elevated fire danger conditions across northern lower Michigan this. Sustained winds of 7 to 15 mph with gusts of 20 to 30 mph will be seen over northern Michigan this afternoon. Minimum relative humidity values of 20 to 35 percent are expected over much of northern lower Michigan. These conditions could lead to rapid spread of fires. Check burning restrictions and fire danger before burning. For more information on burning restrictions for Michigan, see www.dnr.state.mi.us//.
About
Peterson Bridge Campground is the only Forest Service campground on the Pine River in Michigan's Manistee National Forest. Located at the Peterson Bridge crossing, the campground provides direct access to 26 miles of designated National Wild and Scenic River. The Pine River's 7% gradient creates the fastest average flow of any river in lower Michigan, making it a premier destination for experienced paddlers. The campground features approximately 30 sites including standard drive-in sites with asphalt pads and walk-in tent sites nestled in the woods. Ten sites are paddle-in or walk-in only, with several positioned directly on the riverbank for paddlers arriving by canoe or kayak. Many sites offer shade and seclusion among the forest. The canoe/boat launch is located across the river at Peterson Bridge North. The Pine River is renowned as a Blue Ribbon cold-water fishery supporting outstanding trout fishing. Several outfitters near the campground offer canoe rentals for those looking to float this swift-moving river. A watercraft permit is required from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
