About

Flying A Campground sits within the 8,591-acre Myakka State Forest in Sarasota County, Florida. The forest is cooperatively managed by the Florida Forest Service and Southwest Florida Water Management District. The Myakka River, designated as an Outstanding Florida Water, flows through the northeast section of the forest, providing scenic beauty and fishing opportunities. The campground features 10 primitive sites spread across a wooded setting with trees on three sides of each site for privacy. Five sites accommodate RVs or tents (max 24 ft length), while five are tent-only. Sites 1, 3, 8, and 9 allow overnight vehicle parking at the site; other sites require moving vehicles to a separate lot. Each site has a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. Portable toilets are available but campers must bring their own water. Recreational opportunities include over 40 miles of hiking trails, bird watching, wildlife viewing, and fishing. Hunting is permitted during designated seasons. The main camping season runs from Thanksgiving through Easter, though the campground operates year-round.
