About

Flying A Group Camp is a single group tent site nestled within the 8,591-acre Myakka State Forest in Sarasota County, Florida. The campground is designed for groups of 10 to 20 people and operates seasonally from Thanksgiving through Easter. Facilities are primitive with no water or electrical hookups, though port-o-pots are provided in the picnic area. Each site includes fire rings, grills, and picnic tables. The forest features 2.5 miles of frontage along the Myakka River, designated as both an Outstanding Florida Water and a Wild and Scenic River. The terrain consists primarily of mesic flatwoods with mature longleaf and slash pine, along with numerous depression marshes that attract wading birds and diverse wildlife. Over 40 miles of multi-use trails are open to hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Anglers can access the Myakka River by foot for fishing with a valid Florida license, and the river is also popular for canoeing and kayaking. Public hunting occurs annually during designated seasons. Campers should be aware that drought conditions and burn bans may affect fire usage, and firewood collection from the ground is permitted though cutting live trees is prohibited.
