About

Open Pond Recreation Area is a well-maintained campground situated in the Conecuh National Forest in southern Alabama's Covington County. The 450-acre site encompasses three natural ponds totaling 50 acres: Open Pond, Buck Pond, and Ditch Pond. The campground offers 65 developed campsites and 9 primitive sites, with Loops C and D providing water and electric hookups. Two sanitary facilities offer flush toilets, showers, and hot water throughout the campground. Each campsite is equipped with a fire ring, barbecue grill, picnic table, lantern post, benches, and trash receptacle, with designated spaces for tents and vehicles. Potable drinking water is available from faucets throughout the area. The day-use area features a historic group shelter built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, retaining its original design. Recreational opportunities include fishing and boating on the ponds, hiking, and cycling. Blue Lake Recreation Area, located a 10-minute drive away, offers additional amenities including a sand beach and outdoor showers for those camping at Open Pond.
