About
Open Pond Recreation Area offers a diversity of recreational opportunities within Conecuh National Forest. The campground features both primitive sites and sites with water and electric hookups, accommodating a range of camping preferences. With well-maintained facilities and scenic views overlooking the 450-acre Open Pond, visitors enjoy easy access to boating, fishing, hiking, and bicycle riding. The day-use area provides peaceful picnicking with panoramic views of the pond. A historic group shelter built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps retains its original distinct design and appeals to those interested in CCC history. The recreation area is located in South Alabama's mild climate, making it accessible year-round. Blue Lake Recreation Area, a day-use swimming area, is located just 10 minutes away and available for use by Open Pond campers.

Take State Highway 29 south out of Andalusia for approximately 9 miles, turn left travelling south on State Highway 137 for 5 miles, turn left on Open Pond Road for 0.5 mile, turn right on Tower Road for 1 mile, turn right at the Open Pond Recreation Area sign.
