About

Karick Lake South Campground is situated on the south shore of scenic 65-acre Karick Lake within Blackwater River State Forest in Okaloosa County, approximately one hour northeast of Pensacola. The campground features 14 sites accommodating RVs and tents, with electric and water hookups available at each site. Driveway lengths range from 38 to 65 feet, making it suitable for a variety of RV sizes. Modern amenities include flush restrooms with hot showers, a dump station, and a campground host for assistance. The recreation area provides direct access to Karick Lake through a boat ramp and fishing pier. Only electric boat motors are permitted on the lake, and swimming is not allowed. The surrounding forest is part of the largest contiguous longleaf pine-wiregrass ecosystem in the world, offering excellent opportunities for fishing, canoeing, bird watching, wildlife viewing, nature study, and photography. The immediate vicinity of the campground is a non-hunting zone, though hikers venturing away during the main hunting season from Thanksgiving to mid-February are advised to wear fluorescent orange. Blackwater River State Forest encompasses over 210,000 acres of pristine woodlands, lakes, and streams. The campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the forest's extensive trail system, including segments of the Florida National Scenic Trail and the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail. Popular nearby attractions include the Blackwater River for paddling, Gulf beaches, and various museums and entertainment venues in the greater Pensacola area.
