About

Hurricane Lake North Campground is located within the Hurricane Lake Recreation Area in Blackwater River State Forest, Florida's largest state forest spanning over 210,000 acres in Okaloosa County. The campground sits on the north side of 318-acre Hurricane Lake and provides 17 campsites accommodating RVs and tents with electric and water hookups. Modern amenities include restrooms with showers and a dump station. The recreation area features a boat ramp and fishing dock with access to the lake, though only electric boat motors are permitted. The lake offers excellent fishing opportunities, and alligators inhabit the water so swimming is prohibited. Recreational activities include hiking, picnicking, bird watching, wildlife viewing, nature study, and photography. The forest is part of the Florida National Scenic Trail and Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail systems. Blackwater River State Forest is named for the Blackwater River that meanders through the property. Together with adjacent Conecuh National Forest and Eglin Air Force Base, this area forms the largest contiguous longleaf pine-wiregrass ecosystem in the world. The campground is conveniently located about 20 miles from Milton and provides a peaceful retreat with abundant outdoor recreation in northwest Florida.
