About

Old Condon Ranger Station is a historic Forest Service cabin nestled in Swan Valley, about five miles east of the Swan River and just west of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Built in the early 1920s as the ranger's residence for the Condon Ranger District (now Swan Lake Ranger District), the cabin was later restored for public use after the work center relocated in the 1960s. The two-story cabin offers comfortable accommodations with modern amenities including electricity, running water with an indoor flush toilet, and propane heating. The full kitchen comes equipped with a refrigerator/freezer, gas range and oven, plus basic cookware and utensils. Three upstairs bedrooms provide a mix of two double beds and four single beds (bunk sets), with a fold-out couch in the living room for additional sleeping space. Guests enjoy fishing in nearby Simpson Creek and the Swan River, hiking and backpacking on surrounding trails, and wildlife viewing. Winter visitors can access cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. The screened porch offers views of the Mission Mountains across an open meadow, with towering mixed pines behind the cabin.

Directions

Located between milepost 48 and 49 on Highway 83 in northwestern Montana. Turn east onto Condon Loop Road 124 and follow for approximately 2.5 miles. The driveway is on the left just before the large meadow and wetland. Note: Currently access only via southern end of Condon Loop Road due to December 2025 blowdown.
