About
North River Campground provides a peaceful camping experience just off the beaten path in the Cherokee National Forest. This small, family-oriented campground features 11 first-come, first-served campsites positioned along the North River, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. Sites 5 and 6 are located side-by-side, making them particularly well-suited for two groups who want to camp together. The campground is located in the Tellico River recreation region, accessible via Forest Roads 210 and 217 from Tellico Plains. While the remote location offers solitude and natural beauty, campers should come prepared as no potable water is available on-site. Vault toilets provide basic sanitation facilities. Food storage restrictions apply throughout Cherokee National Forest, and all food and beverages must be stored in bear-proof containers or locked vehicles when not in use. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Sites can be paid for by scanning a QR code using the Recreation.gov mobile app or with cash or check on-site. Each site accommodates a maximum of 5 people and 2 vehicles, with check-in at 2:00 p.m. and checkout at noon. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Directions
From Tellico Plains, turn onto TN 165 for approximately 5 miles, then turn right onto Forest Road 210 going past the Ranger Station for about 10 miles. Turn left on Forest Road 217. The campground will be approximately 3 miles upstream.
