About
Dam Creek Walk-In Campground and Picnic Area preserves a piece of Depression-era history as one of the Civilian Conservation Corps sites in the Tellico River region of Cherokee National Forest. The CCC portal at the entrance stands as a reminder of the young workers who built much of the recreational infrastructure in these mountains during the 1930s. This is a primitive, undeveloped campground without restrooms or potable water, so campers must be self-sufficient. Sites are accessed on foot from a parking area, making this unsuitable for RVs or trailers. The quiet, forested setting along the creek offers a peaceful alternative to the larger, more developed campgrounds in the area. The campground sits along scenic Tellico River Road (Forest Road 210), which winds through the Cherokee National Forest past Bald River Falls and numerous other recreation sites. Fishing in the Tellico River and hiking on nearby trails are popular activities. Indian Boundary Recreation Area, about 10 miles away, offers full-service facilities for those needing showers, flush toilets, or hookups.
Directions
From Tellico Plains, take TN 165 east and turn onto Forest Road 210 (Tellico River Road). The campground is located along the scenic river corridor. The narrow, winding road is not suitable for large RVs.
