USE CAUTION - KNOW BEFORE YOU GO! The recent ice storm on March 29, 2025 and subsequent wind events have left many downed and damaged trees across the Mio Ranger District of the Huron-Manistee National Forests that have interrupted recreation opportunities on motorized and non-motorized trails. Crews are actively working to clear trees and debris from Forest Service roads and trails. Visitors should expect down trees and other debris on trails and roads – Please slow down and use caution. Access to areas may be limited on the Forest. This may impact the ability of first responders, such as ambulance and fire first responders, to respond to an emergency. Hikers, equestrians and motorized trail users can locate affected trails on our website at or call the Mio Ranger District Office at (989) 826-3252. About
Meadows ORV Campground is a compact 13-16 site camping facility nestled in a pine and hardwood forest on the Mio Ranger District of the Huron National Forest. The campground serves primarily as a base camp for OHV enthusiasts exploring the extensive trail network in the area. Passing along the south edge of the campground is the Meadows ORV Trail System, developed for vehicles 50 inches or less in width, which connects to the Mack Lake Trail System and Bull Gap Hill Climb, providing over 115 miles of designated motorized trails. The trail features grades ranging from 0 to 10% with some short stretches reaching 30%. Each of the 13-16 single campsites includes a picnic table, campfire ring, and lantern post, and can accommodate trailers or RVs up to 25 feet in length. The campground provides vault toilets and garbage collection services. During the operating season (May 1 through November 30), a hand pump well typically provides drinking water, though water systems are shut off during winter. The campground is isolated from nearby light sources, making it an excellent location for stargazing. The west branch of Big Creek is crossed by Meadows West Trail just southwest of the campground. The site is not gated during the off-season and is accessible year-round, though it is not maintained in winter with no plowed access roads or operational facilities.
