Natural Tunnel State Park Shelters And Hunts

Closed — Closed for the season. Picnic shelters are available for rental from March 1 through November 30 each year.

About

Natural Tunnel State Park, located in the scenic Appalachian Mountains of Scott County, Virginia, offers both picnic shelter rentals and special hunting opportunities. The park features five picnic shelters, including three small and two large shelters, available for all-day rental from 8 a.m. to dusk. These shelters operate seasonally from March 1 through November 30 and provide excellent venues for family gatherings and group events. The park also hosts managed deer hunting opportunities in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources. These special hunts typically include archery and shotgun seasons and are designed to provide novice and experienced hunters access to established wildlife habitat within the park's 850 acres. The centerpiece of the park is the Natural Tunnel itself, often called the "Eighth Wonder of the World." This massive natural formation is so large that it accommodates an active railroad line. Beyond the shelters and hunting, the park offers a visitor center, swimming pool, hiking trails, chairlift access, and interpretive programs, making it a destination for nature enthusiasts and outdoor recreationists.
