About

Minneopa State Park Campground is situated in southern Minnesota, approximately nine miles south of Mankato and 90 minutes from Minneapolis. The Red Fox Campground offers 61 semi-modern campsites spread across two loops (A Loop and B Loop) in a mixture of open and wooded terrain. Only six sites have electrical hookups, while the rest are primitive. The park is split into two main areas: the waterfall area with park office accessible via County Highway 69, and the campground and bison range area accessible via State Highway 68. The park's name derives from the Dakota language, interpreted as 'water falling twice,' referring to the beautiful waterfalls of Minneopa Creek. Visitors can walk trails that encircle the falls and descend limestone stairways to the valley below. Beyond camping and waterfall viewing, the park features a bison range where visitors can observe these magnificent animals, as well as prairie landscapes and various hiking trails. The park is undergoing modernization plans to improve camping infrastructure with larger, more accessible sites and updated facilities.
