About
Minneopa State Park Group Campground consists of four primitive group camping areas, each designed to accommodate up to 15 people. The name Minneopa comes from the Dakota language meaning "water falling twice," referring to the park's two beautiful waterfalls along Minneopa Creek. Each group site includes picnic tables and fire rings with grills, with access to water and primitive toilets nearby. The group campground is located in the newer section of the park off State Highway 68, near the Red Fox Campground and within walking distance to the confluence of Minneopa Creek and the Minnesota River. The park offers excellent opportunities for group activities including hiking on over 4.5 miles of trails, viewing the 10-foot upper falls and 39-foot lower falls, driving through the bison range to see North America's largest mammal, and visiting the historic Seppmann Windmill built in 1862. The group campground provides a rustic camping experience ideal for Scout troops, family reunions, and other organized groups seeking a primitive camping setting in close proximity to one of southern Minnesota's most scenic state parks.
