About

Established in 1902, Mont Alto State Park holds the distinction of being the oldest park still in Pennsylvania's state park system. This compact 24-acre park sits in southeastern Franklin County near the town of Mont Alto, surrounded by the Michaux State Forest. The park's centerpiece is a unique historic pavilion available for group rentals and events. The park provides day-use facilities including picnic areas, a playground, restrooms with pit toilets, and hiking trails. Antietam Creek runs through the park offering trout fishing opportunities. Winter activities include access to snowmobiling trails in the adjacent state forest. Mont Alto State Park does not offer overnight camping. Campers seeking nearby accommodations should consider Caledonia State Park approximately 6 miles north, which has tent and RV sites with modern amenities, or the Michaux State Forest which offers primitive and motorized camping options.
