About

Meeker Park Overflow Campground sits at 8,600 feet elevation in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, serving as a popular base camp for hikers targeting two of Rocky Mountain National Park's most iconic trailheads. Longs Peak Trailhead lies approximately two miles north, while Wild Basin Trailhead is about two miles south. The campground's proximity to Estes Park and the national park means it frequently fills to capacity on weekends despite its primitive nature. The 29 first-come, first-served sites accommodate tents, campers, trailers, and RVs, though the campground is best suited for tent camping. Unpaved roads, steep grades, and short pull-ins make maneuvering larger vehicles challenging. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, and all tent pad sites have bear-resistant food storage lockers. Portable toilets are provided but there is no potable water, electricity, hookups, dump station, or showers. Campers should arrive prepared with their own water supply. Pets are allowed but must remain on a hand-held leash at all times. The campground enforces a 14-day stay limit and a maximum of eight people per site. At $16 per night, it offers an affordable option for campers seeking proximity to high-altitude hiking without the crowds of the national park campgrounds.
