Longs Peak Campground
Closed for the winter season. Opens July 2, 2026 at 1 p.m. and closes September 8, 2026 at noon. All sites are first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. A timed entry permit is required for park access.
About
Longs Peak Campground sits at 9,500 feet elevation in a forested area about 20 minutes south of Estes Park on Highway 7. The campground serves as a base camp for climbers attempting Longs Peak (14,259 feet), the highest summit in Rocky Mountain National Park. All 26 sites are tent-only and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each site includes a fire ring, picnic table, and access to food storage lockers for bear-country compliance. Vault toilets are available year-round, but there is no potable water anywhere in the campground. Campers must bring all drinking water and water for extinguishing campfires. Sites accommodate up to 8 people with one vehicle per site. The campground operates seasonally from early July through early September. A timed entry permit is required to access Rocky Mountain National Park, and camping here does not include park entrance. Wildlife including black bears, elk, and deer frequent the area.
Directions
From Estes Park, take CO Highway 7 south for 20 miles. Longs Peak Road will be on your right with signs for Longs Peak Ranger Station and Longs Peak Campground.
