About

Meadows Campground occupies an open, sunny setting amid subalpine meadows at 6,250 feet in the Hart's Pass area of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. The campground serves as a critical staging point for Pacific Crest Trail section hikers and provides trailhead access to the Pasayten Wilderness. A short hike to Slate Peak Lookout offers panoramic views of the North Cascades. The campground is primitive with vault toilets, picnic tables, and no potable water. Campers must pack out all trash. The access road (Forest Road 5400) is notoriously narrow with steep drop-offs, making it completely unsuitable for trailers. Even experienced drivers should exercise caution on this winding mountain road.

Directions

From Winthrop, drive west on Highway 20 for 15 miles, turn right onto Lost River Road 9140 for 7.5 miles. Continue as the paved road becomes gravel Forest Road 5400. Follow for 13 miles, then turn left onto FR 5400-500 and drive one mile to Meadows Campground. Harts Pass Road is extremely narrow with steep drop-offs; yield to oncoming traffic.
