About
Silver Tip Group Campground is located on the scenic southwest shore of Jackson Meadow Reservoir within Tahoe National Forest's Woodcamp Recreation Area. At an elevation of 6,200 feet, the campground provides a rugged yet accessible setting for group camping amid towering conifers and granite landscapes characteristic of the Sierra Nevada. The facility features two group sites that together can accommodate up to 50 people, making it ideal for family reunions, scout troops, and other large gatherings. Jackson Meadow Reservoir serves as the centerpiece for recreational activities, offering excellent opportunities for boating, canoeing, water skiing, and fishing for stocked rainbow trout. A California fishing license is required. The reservoir loop trail provides easy hiking access, while more ambitious hikers can access the Pacific Crest Trail nearby. The area also features remnants of 19th-century logging operations that add historical interest to the landscape. The campground operates seasonally and is part of bear country, requiring mandatory use of bear-proof food storage containers. This rustic facility offers vault toilets and potable water but no hookups, showers, or cell phone service. Fire restrictions may be imposed during hot, dry conditions. The campground has been serving visitors since the 1970s when it was established as part of efforts to expand recreational opportunities in the area.
Directions
From Sierraville, drive 11 miles south on Highway 89. Turn right at Little Truckee Summit onto Forest Road 7. Continue 16 miles west to Jackson Meadow Reservoir. The campground is on the southwest shore of the reservoir.
