***Attention:**** Due to the threat of golden mussels, these boat launches will be closed to motorized watercraft for the 2025 season: 1) Jackson Meadows Reservoir boat launches (Pass Creek and Woodcamp) and 2) Bowman Lake. You may still launch non-motorized watercraft from these boat launches. For more information, about the golden mussel and how to do your part to reduce the threat of introduction, please read below and visit: *[*https://www.nidwater.com/jackson-meadows*][1]*.* * The non-native, highly invasive golden mussel was discovered in Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in October 2024. Once established, they can affect flood control by reducing water flow and contribute to harmful algal blooms. Please contact the waterbody you plan to visit for latest information about launching requirements. Since golden mussels and their larval offspring are very small, they may easily go unseen on your watercraft. To keep our favorite lakes and rivers free from this risk, please Clean, Drain, Dry equipment and watercraft before and after entering a waterbody: *[*https://dbw.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=28993*][2] [1]: https://www.nidwater.com/jackson-meadows [2]: https://dbw.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=28993
About
Fir Top Campground is located alongside the scenic Jackson Meadows Reservoir in the Tahoe National Forest, positioned on the western shore at an elevation of 6,100 feet. The campground sits in a rolling forested valley where visitors are awarded beautiful views of the Sierra Crest and English Mountain. The 12 single-family campsites are nestled in a forest of pine and fir trees, providing a peaceful mountain setting. Jackson Meadows Reservoir offers excellent opportunities for a variety of water-based recreation. Anglers will find rainbow and brown trout, while boaters can enjoy canoeing, water skiing, and general boating activities. A boat ramp and designated swim beach are located within the recreation area. Note that due to the threat of golden mussels discovered in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in October 2024, motorized watercraft are not permitted at Jackson Meadows boat launches, though non-motorized watercraft can still be launched. A half-mile interpretive nature trail wanders through the adjacent Woodcamp Campground, and a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail meanders along the east side of the lake, providing excellent hiking opportunities. Hunting, mountain biking, and exploring miles of 4WD and ATV roads are popular activities in the surrounding area. The campground is operated by Nevada Irrigation District in cooperation with the Tahoe National Forest. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring. The facility provides flush toilets and drinking water, though water service may not be available at certain times during the season. Bears frequent the area, so all food must be kept in approved containers. The campground does not offer utility hookups, showers, cell phone service, or telephones. Sites accommodate a maximum of 6 people and 2 dogs, with dogs required to be kept on leash no longer than six feet. Fire restrictions may be imposed during hot, dry weather conditions.
