Fire Danger Level Elevated to "High"

Effective June 12, 2026, fire danger levels have increased to “HIGH” at the Angeles National Forest, which includes the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. Visit our Newsroom Webpage to read the full press release.

About

Horse Flats Campground offers 26 shaded campsites at approximately 5,700 feet elevation in the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, and vault toilets are provided, though no potable water is available. The campground accommodates RVs up to 20 feet but has no hookups. Four horse corrals and multiple hitching posts on the west side of the campground make it a destination for equestrians. The Silver Moccasin National Recreation Trail begins a short walk from the southwest corner of the campground, providing access to miles of mountain trails. Bouldering and rock climbing opportunities are available at Mt. Hillyer, about one mile from camp. The surrounding pine forest and granite formations create a peaceful mountain setting. Bears frequent the area, so proper food storage is required. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 6 pm. Check-in is at 2 pm and check-out is at 11 am. No generators, amplifiers, or loud music are permitted. Cell service is not available.

Directions

From Interstate 210 in La Cañada Flintridge, exit at Angeles Crest Highway (Highway 2) and drive 29 miles to the intersection with Santa Clara Divide Road (3N17) at Three Points. Turn south and drive 3 miles to the campground.
