About

Dixie Campground is a quiet, primitive 9-site campground located in the Malheur National Forest about 8 miles east of Prairie City, Oregon near Dixie Summit. The sites are set back among ponderosa and lodgepole pine trees, providing a peaceful base camp for exploring the forest. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and parking suitable for camp trailers. Accessible vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations required. A 14-day stay limit is enforced. There is no cell phone coverage at the campground. All trash must be packed out. A day-use picnic area is located near the campground entrance for those just passing through. Late July and early August offer excellent huckleberry picking in the surrounding forest. The Sumpter Valley Interpretive Trail and Davis Creek Trail are just a short drive away, making this an ideal location for hikers, hunters, and those wanting to explore the diverse recreational opportunities of the Malheur National Forest.
