About
McGregor Lake Campground is located 53 miles southeast of Libby, Montana on Highway 2, positioned at the west end of McGregor Lake in the Thompson Chain of Lakes area. At 1,240 acres, McGregor Lake is the largest lake in Kootenai National Forest and hosts a prime mackinaw trout population known for trophy-size catches. The campground sits at 3,900 feet elevation and includes 27 sites with fire rings and picnic tables, including four tent sites along the lake near the boat ramp and one reservable group site. Facilities include vault toilets, potable water, and garbage service during the managed season. An on-site boat ramp provides access for motorized and non-motorized watercraft, with swimming and water skiing popular activities. The 2.9-mile McGregor Lake Shoreline Trail offers hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities, and the surrounding area is known for huckleberry picking. Individual campsites operate first-come, first-served and are not on the reservation system. The group site (a 120x140 foot gravel parking area accommodating up to 50 people) is reservable through Recreation.gov. A 16-day stay limit applies. Pets are welcome but must be leashed.

From Libby, take US Route 2 east 53 miles to campground sign, turn right and continue 0.2 miles. Alternatively, from Kalispell, take US Route 2 west 32 miles.
