Isabella & Lost Girl Fires- Road and Trail Closure
Due to the Isabella and Lost Girl Fires on the Cabinet Ranger District, a closure order is now in effect for a portion National Forest System Road 407, National Forest System Trail #407A, and Trail #646 (St. Paul Lake Trail).
Spruce Fire Road Closure-Updated
Due to the Spruce and Spruce Ridge Fires on the Three Rivers Ranger District, a closure order is still in effect. However, the original order has been terminated and replaced with an updated closure.
South Meadow Creek Fire Closure
Due to the South Meadow Creek Fire, a closure order is now in effect for National Forest System Roads #524 and #5961, starting at the junction of the two roads to their respective ending points.
Kootenai Rails Trail Closure
A portion of the Kootenai Rails Trail (NFS Trail #255) on the Rexford Ranger District is now temporarily closed during construction activities on the Tobacco River Bridge, which is over the trail, and to protect the public on the trail from potential debris impacts.
About
McGregor Lake Campground is situated at 3,900 feet elevation on the west end of McGregor Lake in the Fisher River Area of the Kootenai National Forest. The lake spans 1,240 acres, making it the largest lake in the Kootenai National Forest. The campground is nestled among young pines, offering a scenic mountain setting about halfway between Libby and Kalispell in the heart of the Thompson Chain of Lakes. The campground features 27 sites including one camp host site, with most sites accommodating rigs up to 32 feet in length. All sites include picnic tables and fire rings. Amenities include vault toilets, garbage service, and potable drinking water available during the peak season. The individual campsites operate on a first-come, first-served basis and are not available for advance reservation, though a group site can be reserved through Recreation.gov. McGregor Lake is renowned for its prime mackinaw trout population and offers excellent opportunities for trophy-size catches. The campground provides direct lake access via an on-site boat ramp. Swimming and water skiing are popular summer activities. The 2.9-mile McGregor Lake Shoreline Trail offers scenic hiking opportunities, and huckleberry picking is available in the surrounding area during late summer. The Fisher River Area encompasses the Thompson Chain of Lakes, consisting of more than 20 lakes in the watershed formed by the four forks of the Fisher River and Wolf Creek.

From Libby, take US Route 2 east 53 miles to campground sign. Turn right at sign and go 0.2 miles to campground. Alternate route: From Kalispell, take US Route 2 west for 32 miles to campground entrance.
