About

Lower Penstemon Campground is situated along the scenic Rock Creek Road in southern Idaho, approximately 27 miles south of Hansen, at an elevation of 6,600 feet. The campground sits in a mixed conifer and aspen forest just off Rock Creek Road, with most sites offering partial shade. Summer wildflowers dot the landscape and wildlife sightings are common in the surrounding area. The area is popular for outdoor recreation, with numerous trails crisscrossing the surrounding terrain. Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and off-road vehicle trails are all accessible from the campground. Third Fork, Pike Mountain, Rim View, and Porcupine Spring trails all begin nearby. Rock Creek runs along the campground and offers good trout fishing opportunities. The campground is well suited for medium-sized motorhomes, trailers, and tent camping. Facilities include picnic tables and fire rings at each site, along with vault toilets. No water is available on-site, so campers must bring their own. Sites may be reserved through Recreation.gov, with single campsites costing $8 per night. Interagency Senior and Access passes provide a 50% discount on single campsites.
