About
Lower Lake Recreation Area is a versatile day-use facility developed for visitors of DeGray Lake's regulating dam in western Arkansas. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this recreation area sits on the scenic Caddo River and provides diverse outdoor recreational opportunities throughout the year.
Fishing is a primary draw, with anglers enjoying the continuous outflow from the dam, the 400-acre pool above the dam, and float-fishing opportunities on the river below. The area features an 18-hole disc golf course that opened in late 2011 and has become one of the region's most popular courses. The Voss Fitness Trail offers a 1-mile gravel path with four fitness stops featuring 19 workout stations, while the DeGray Lake Sunset Trail provides a 1.7-mile ADA-accessible paved loop with lakeside views suitable for all skill levels.
The recreation area includes a group shelter available for rental with a maximum capacity of 50 people, located beside the Caddo River with adjacent amenities including a playground, sand volleyball court, and open playing field. A boat ramp provides river access for kayaking, canoeing, and boating. The openness of the area makes it ideal for softball, volleyball, and other outdoor activities. DeGray Lake, one of Arkansas's five Diamond Lakes, is known for crystal-clear waters and spans 13,500 surface acres in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains.
