About
Highway 7 Recreation Area is a scenic day-use facility situated on a narrow, wooded peninsula along DeGray Lake, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The area has been recognized as one of America's Top 25 Picnic Areas and serves as a popular destination for lake recreation during warm weather months. The main facility is a reservable group pavilion located at the end of the peninsula, equipped with electric and water hookups and a maximum capacity of 50 people. The gradually sloping shoreline provides two beach areas where visitors can swim and enjoy the lake. Additional amenities include playground equipment, two restrooms, and numerous picnic sites scattered throughout the tree-covered grounds. The area is particularly known for the many black squirrels that inhabit the peninsula. DeGray Lake encompasses 13,500 water acres with 207 miles of shoreline and an average depth of 47 feet. The lake is a premier destination for fishing tournaments, triathlons, boating, and jet skiing. Highway 7 Recreation Area provides water access and is conveniently located between Iron Mountain Marina and DeGray Lake Resort State Park. This is a day-use only facility; no overnight camping is permitted.
