About
Deerhorn Forest Camp is a small, secluded campground nestled along the Middle Fork John Day River State Scenic Waterway in the Malheur National Forest. With just 5 campsites, this quiet retreat offers an intimate camping experience surrounded by forest and river habitat. The campground serves as an excellent base for fishing in the Middle Fork John Day River, wildlife observation, and hunting activities during appropriate seasons. The campground is most popular during late summer months and hunting season when visitors take advantage of the area's abundant wildlife and scenic beauty. One campsite can accommodate RVs up to 30 feet in length (including vehicle and trailer). The remote location and basic amenities make this an ideal spot for campers seeking a more primitive, back-to-basics experience. Visitors should come prepared with their own drinking water and be ready to pack out all trash. The campground operates on first-come, first-served basis with check-in at 2:00 p.m. and check-out at noon. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The 14-day stay limit applies as with all Malheur National Forest campgrounds.
