About
Cherry Creek Campground is a peaceful 9-site campground situated along the shores of Hebgen Lake in the Custer Gallatin National Forest, about 14 miles northwest of West Yellowstone. The campground offers a first-come, first-served experience with a variety of sites ranging from sunny to shaded, some with lake views and others tucked away for more privacy. Driveway lengths vary from 25 to 70 feet, accommodating both tents and smaller RVs.
The campground provides vault toilets and firepits at each site, but visitors must bring their own drinking water as none is available on-site. Trash service is not provided during off-season periods, so pack-it-in, pack-it-out principles apply. The nearby Basin Lakes National Recreation Trail offers hiking opportunities, and the lake provides excellent fishing for rainbow and brown trout, as well as swimming access.
Access is via Denny Creek Road (Forest Service Road 167), approximately 8 miles west of West Yellowstone on US Highway 20, then 6 miles north. The area's high elevation and Montana climate mean the operating season is weather-dependent, typically running from May through September.
Directions
From West Yellowstone, drive 8 miles west on US Highway 20, then turn north onto Denny Creek Road (Hebgen Lake Road/Forest Service Road 167) and continue 6 miles to the campground.
