Cabin Creek Cabin

Open — Open for reservations June through March. Closed in spring (April-May) due to weather and trail conditions. Motorized trail access restrictions apply: motorcycles July 16-October 14, ATV/UTV July 16-December 1.

About

Cabin Creek Cabin is a primitive, rustic single-room structure built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, situated at approximately 8,700 feet elevation among mixed conifers in the Madison Range. The backcountry cabin accommodates up to 4 people with one bunk bed platform and three cots. A wood stove provides heat, and basic cookware, dishes, axe, shovel, and table with chairs are furnished. An adjacent vault toilet and hitching rail for stock complete the facilities. This is a true backcountry experience requiring significant effort to access. Summer access involves a 6-7 mile hike one way via Red Canyon Trail #205, with seasonal motorcycle access (July 16-October 14) or ATV/UTV access to within 1 mile of the cabin (July 16-December 1). Winter access is via an 11-mile snowmobile trip on the Big Sky Snowmobile Trail. The cabin sits near Middle Fork Cabin Creek with hiking access to the Monument Mountain Unit of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness, which climbs to 10,995-foot Monument Peak. The area offers excellent opportunities for big game hunting, and Yellowstone National Park is approximately 20 miles away. Grizzly bears, elk, gray wolves, bighorn sheep, deer, and moose inhabit the surrounding wilderness.
