About
Nestled under the pine trees of Muddy Mountain south of Casper, Lodgepole Campground provides 15 first-come, first-served campsites within the Muddy Mountain Environmental Education Area. The campground includes level tent pads and fire rings, with a few pull-through sites that can accommodate large trailers and RVs. Two double-vaulted toilets serve the camping loop, and potable water is available on-site.
The campground sits at the center of an accessible recreation area featuring a 2-mile interpretive nature trail that connects Lodgepole to the nearby Rim Campground. This ADA-accessible trail includes 28 interpretive signs and two scenic overlooks. Additional trails in the area accommodate hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Each campsite includes at least one accessible picnic table, and tree coverage provides shade throughout the campground.
Access requires traveling on gravel roads for several miles beyond the end of pavement on Casper Mountain. The Muddy Mountain Road closes annually from late November through early June due to snow and unsafe winter conditions, with the area remaining open for snowmobile use on designated trails during closure periods.
