About

Edness K. Wilkins State Park spans 362 acres along the historic North Platte River, six miles east of Casper in Natrona County. This former gravel pit has been transformed into a serene day-use recreation area popular with families, nature enthusiasts, and bird watchers. The park's extensive riparian habitat attracts over 200 bird species and has been designated an Important Bird Area by the Audubon Society due to its significance during spring and fall migrations. The park features 3 miles of paved, universally accessible trails that wind through mature cottonwood groves and along the riverbank, providing excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. A sandy swimming beach and swimming pond offer summer recreation, while the North Platte River provides fishing, canoeing, and rafting opportunities. The park includes a unique universally accessible fishing pier, the only one of its kind in Wyoming. Day-use facilities include numerous picnic sites, four reservable group shelters, playgrounds, grills, and a boat launch ramp for canoes and rafts. Recent additions include cabins and an archery range. The park is open year-round with seasonal hours: April 1 through September 30 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and October 1 through March 31 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Day-use entry fees apply. Note that overnight camping is not permitted at this park.
