About
Campbell Creek Campground is a quiet, remote campground located at 7,920 feet elevation in the western Laramie Mountains of Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. The campground features 6 sites (5 single, 1 double) spread widely apart under mature pine trees, giving each site a dispersed feel with excellent privacy. Campbell Creek flows through the middle of the campground, providing a pleasant backdrop of gurgling water.
The road into the area passes through scenic LaPrele Canyon and crosses LaPrele Creek multiple times. This campground provides some of the only Forest Service land available for recreating on the west side of the North Laramie Range. Expect to see abundant wildlife including deer, elk, marmots, beaver, owls, and bats.
Nearby recreation includes the Twin Peaks Trail (#618), Deer Creek Trail (#659), and Elkhorn Trail (#696), as well as the historic LaPrele Guard Station and Little Medicine Falls. Activities include hiking, mountain biking, backpacking, horseback riding (not allowed in campground), and OHV riding on designated trails with Wyoming State OHV stickers.
Directions
From Douglas, travel 20 miles southwest on WY 91, then 13 miles southwest on County Road 24. Be prepared for delays due to road work and/or cattle drives.
