About

Little Muddy Breaks Horse Campground is located within Little Missouri State Park in western North Dakota's rugged Badlands country. As one of the state's premier equestrian destinations, the park features extensive horse amenities including 81 corrals, a round pen, and hay available for purchase. The campground recently expanded to include 12 double campsites and 15 single campsites, with upgrades to rural water hydrants and 30-50 amp electrical service, and individual horse corrals at each equestrian site. The park encompasses over 6,000 acres of dramatic Badlands terrain along the Little Missouri River, offering more than 40 miles of trails designated for horseback riding and hiking. Called "Mako Shika" or "where the land breaks" by the Sioux, this landscape showcases North Dakota's most striking scenery with wind-carved formations and rolling waterways. Campers can choose from modern sites with electrical hookups or primitive camping options, all with access to vault toilets, a dump station, and pay shower facilities. The park also features three picnic shelters available for rent and serves as a gateway to nearby attractions including Theodore Roosevelt National Park's North Unit.
