About
Coal Creek Campground is a small, fenced campground situated in the Little Missouri National Grassland, approximately 12 miles south of Medora, North Dakota. The campground features 10 individual campsites, each equipped with gravel parking pads, fire rings, and picnic tables. Two vault toilets serve the campground, and a solar-powered water well provides potable water during the spring through fall seasons. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations, charging $10 per night per site. Pack-in, pack-out rules apply, requiring visitors to remove all trash. The campground is open year-round, though services are limited after Labor Day and before Memorial Day. A 14-consecutive-day stay limit is enforced. Coal Creek Campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the area's trail system. Trailheads for the Maah Daah Hey Trail and Coal Creek Loop are located near the campground entrance, offering opportunities for mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding. The campground also provides access to the Custer Auto Tour. All trails are non-motorized only, with motorized vehicles including e-bikes, ATVs, UTVs, and snowmobiles prohibited. Pets are allowed but must remain leashed at all times within the campground.
Directions
