About

Little Jimmy Trail Camp provides a true backcountry camping experience in the Angeles National Forest, nestled in the San Gabriel Mountains at 7,500 feet elevation. This hike-in only campground is accessible via a 2.1-mile trek along the Pacific Crest Trail from the Islip Saddle trailhead on Angeles Crest Highway. The campground features 7 first-come, first-served campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Vintage backcountry ovens add historic character to the camp. Vault toilets are available, and water can be obtained from the nearby Little Jimmy Spring, though it must be treated or filtered before use. The spring generally flows year-round but may be reduced during dry periods. The camp operates year-round but may experience deep snow in winter months. Access is dependent on Highway 2 conditions, which is subject to seasonal closures, particularly between Islip Saddle and Big Pines during winter. An Adventure Pass is required for parking at the Islip Saddle trailhead.

Directions

From Interstate 210 and Highway 2, proceed 39.5 miles north on Highway 2 to Islip Saddle Day Use Area on the left. From the Islip Saddle parking area, access the Pacific Crest Trail on the south side of Highway 2. Hike southeast on the PCT for 2.1 miles to Little Jimmy Trail Camp. Note: Highway 2 is subject to seasonal closures.
