About

Sycamore Flat Campground occupies a transitional zone at 4,200 feet elevation where the Mojave Desert meets the San Gabriel Mountains in Angeles National Forest. The campground sits along Big Rock Creek Road, surrounded by juniper and sycamore trees, offering a quieter alternative to more developed campgrounds in the forest. This primitive facility provides 11 first-come, first-served campsites with basic amenities including vault toilets and seasonal drinking water from a hand pump. The USFS notes this site is not regularly maintained, so campers should come prepared for minimal services. An Adventure Pass ($5/day or $30/annual) or equivalent recreation pass is required. The campground serves as a popular trailhead access point and lies approximately half a mile from Big Rock Creek. Fall brings the most comfortable conditions with daytime temperatures between 60-75°F and nights in the mid-30s to 40s. Dispersed camping restrictions in Angeles National Forest limit stays to 14 consecutive days in developed campgrounds through December 2026.
