About

Big Rock Campground is a small, primitive campground located deep in Fenner Canyon on the north side of the San Gabriel Mountains within Angeles National Forest. The campground features 8 well-spaced campsites situated in a peaceful oak grove along Big Rock Creek Road. Each site is equipped with one picnic table and a campfire ring. The campground provides vault toilets and trash receptacles, but no potable water is available, so visitors must bring adequate water for all needs including cooking, cleaning, drinking, and extinguishing campfires. Access to the campground is via Forest Service Road 4N11, which is seasonally closed from the beginning of May to mid-November. During the winter months when the road is open to vehicles, the campground can be driven to directly. When the road is closed in warmer months, visitors must hike approximately 1/8 mile from the gate to reach the campground. The remote location and seasonal access restrictions result in light usage, making it an ideal destination for those seeking solitude in the San Gabriel Mountains. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis year-round. Overnight camping costs $5 per night, with a 50% discount available to holders of Interagency Senior or Access Recreation Passes. Day use is also available for $5 per vehicle, and Adventure Passes or Interagency Recreation Passes are honored. Visitors should be prepared to pay with cash or check.
