Fire Danger Level Elevated to "High"

Effective June 12, 2026, fire danger levels have increased to “HIGH” at the Angeles National Forest, which includes the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. Visit our Newsroom Webpage to read the full press release.

About

Deer Flat Group Campground sits in the rugged terrain of the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, part of the Angeles National Forest in Los Angeles County. At roughly 6,800 feet elevation, the campground provides a base for horseback riding and equestrian camping in the surrounding mountain wilderness. The facility is managed by concessionaire Mountain High and typically charges $50 per group per night. Amenities are minimal; potable water is not available at this site even when operational, so groups must bring their own water supply. Toilets are present on site. The campground has been closed indefinitely due to road damage, with no announced timeline for reopening. Those interested in updates should contact the concessionaire directly.

Directions

From I-210 in the San Gabriel Valley, access via forest roads to the campground location. Specific route details are available from the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument office in Glendora.
