About
Coldbrook Campground sits at 3,350 feet elevation along the North Fork of the San Gabriel River within the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. The 22 shaded campsites are nestled at the intersection of Coldbrook and Soldier Creeks, offering a quieter alternative to the nearby Crystal Lake Recreation Area. Each site accommodates up to eight people and two vehicles (additional fee for second vehicle), with a fire ring and picnic table. The campground provides vault toilets. Piped water is not currently available due to a maintenance issue; visitors must bring sufficient water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and extinguishing campfires. Stream water is available seasonally but must be treated before use. RVs up to 22 feet in length are permitted, though no hookups are available. Recreational opportunities abound: the Smith Mountain Trailhead is just a third of a mile away, and the popular Bridge to Nowhere hike via the East Fork Trail is a short drive. The Upper Bear Creek Trailhead for wilderness backpacking lies approximately a quarter-mile south. The San Gabriel River is stocked with rainbow trout during summer months, roughly four miles downstream.
