About
Established in 1932 as a memorial to Nancy Hanks, Abraham Lincoln's mother, this 1,747-acre park preserves the landscape where young Lincoln spent his formative years from ages 7 to 21. The park's recreational facilities were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression and include the beautiful Lake Lincoln, historic shelters, and an extensive trail system. Visitors can explore 10 miles of hiking trails that follow the paths Lincoln once walked, including routes to the James Gentry home where Lincoln worked as a young man and the Little Pigeon Creek Baptist Church where his sister Sarah is buried. The campground offers a variety of camping options with 150 electric sites at Lake Lincoln Electric Campground, 88 non-electric sites at Gobbler's Run Campground, and 31 primitive sites. The park also features Blue Heron family cabins, Pine Hills group cottages, and youth tent areas. Amenities include a dump station, boat launch ramp for electric motors only, swimming beach, boat rentals, and a general store. The Sarah Lincoln Woods Nature Preserve in the southern portion of the park protects pristine forest and rare prairie plants. Adjacent to Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, the park provides an immersive historical and natural experience in the rolling hills of southern Indiana.
