About
Goldenrod Loop is one of two dedicated group camping areas at Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area in the Hoosier National Forest. This group campground can accommodate up to 65 people across five individual campsites, making it ideal for large family gatherings, scout troops, and other organized groups. The camp is equipped with vault toilets and seasonal water service during the operating season. Located in Perry County, the recreation area sits on the shores of 131-acre Tipsaw Lake, approximately six miles south of Interstate 64 off State Highway 37. The area is operated by a concessionaire under a special use permit from the Forest Service. Tipsaw Lake is known as one of the best panfish lakes in southern Indiana, offering excellent fishing for bass, crappie, and bluegill. The lake allows boating with electric motors only. Campers at Goldenrod Loop have access to the recreation area's amenities, including a swimming beach with modern bathhouse (open Memorial Day through Labor Day), boat launch, picnic areas with shelters, and the 5.9-mile Tipsaw Trail that circles the lake for hiking and mountain biking. The recreation area is set within scenic hardwood forests with rolling terrain, offering opportunities for wildlife viewing including deer, woodland songbirds, hawks, and turkey. Day-use fees apply during the operating season.
