Hickory Ridge Trail 16 Closed

Tipsaw Trail Bridge Closed Temporarily

Bridge #3 on Tipsaw Trail at Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area failed inspection and is closed for public safety. The trail remains open and visitors can bypass the bridge if they feel safe doing so.

Peninsula Trail Closed

The Peninsula Trail and Campsites 12 and 21 will remain closed until further notice.  A severe storm in June 2024 caused significant damage.

About

Primrose Loop Group Site sits within Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area in Hoosier National Forest, offering organized groups a dedicated camping area in southern Indiana's rugged hills. The site accommodates up to 65 people across six campsites and operates as a reservable group camping facility from mid-April through October. The group camp features vault toilets, potable water, and fire rings at each site (only USDA-certified firewood permitted). Campers can access showers at the modern bathhouse near the beach. A dump station is located across the highway from the recreation area entrance. The surrounding area includes Tipsaw Lake for paddling and fishing with electric motors only, a swimming beach open Memorial Day through Labor Day, and 5.9 miles of trail circling the lake for hiking and mountain biking. The campground is located six miles south of Interstate 64 off Indiana Highway 37. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 PM to 6 AM. Reservations are made through Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777.

Directions

From Interstate 64, take Exit 79 onto Indiana Highway 37 and head south approximately six miles. Follow signs to Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area entrance.
