About

Interlake Off-Road State Recreation Area is a 3,550-acre multi-use recreational facility built on former coal mine land straddling Pike and Warrick counties in southern Indiana. The property focuses primarily on off-road vehicle recreation with nearly 100 miles of trails ranging from beginner to advanced difficulty levels. The three distinct areas of mining and reclamation create varied topography including steep spoil banks, rolling grasslands, man-made lakes, and strip pits that offer scenic views and diverse trail experiences. All types of off-road vehicles are welcome including full-size vehicles, Jeeps, trucks, dirt bikes, ATVs, UTVs, and home-built rigs. The property also accommodates horseback riders, hikers, and mountain bikers on designated trails. Seventeen lakes provide fishing opportunities, and some allow non-motorized or electric boating. Mushroom hunting, hunting, trapping (with permit), and dog training are also permitted. Primitive camping is available at 36 total sites: 11 in the family camping area and 25 in the horseman's campground. All campsites are first-come, first-served with self-registration required. Each site includes a picnic table and grill. Pit toilets and seasonal drinking water are provided. A reservable group shelter (Big Kate Shelter) is also available. The trails operate sunrise to sunset daily, and all ORVs must be registered or street-legal according to Indiana law.
