LICKSTONE DISPERSED CAMPSITES

Open — Open for dispersed camping on a first-come, first-served basis. FSR 97 may be subject to seasonal closures for motor vehicles, typically during winter months. Limited to 14 consecutive nights per 30-day period.

About

Lickstone Dispersed Campsites are free roadside camping sites located along Forest Service Road 97 (Lickstone Ridge Road) in the remote Pisgah Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest in Haywood County. This area offers rugged access to dispersed camping with two designated sites near Sunburst Recreation Area. Each campsite includes a designated parking area, tent pad, and metal fire ring, providing a primitive camping experience in the national forest. Campers must be self-sufficient as no water, toilet facilities, or trash services are provided. All human waste must be buried at least 6 inches deep and 200 feet from streams, trails, or campsites. Dead and downed firewood may be collected, but cutting live trees is prohibited. The 14-day stay limit within a 30-day period applies, and campsites must be occupied the night they are set up. Alcohol is prohibited on Lickstone Road and within 1,000 feet of either side of the road.

Directions

Lickstone Dispersed Campsites can be accessed via Forest Service roads within the National Forest. Use USFS road maps to locate eligible roadside pull-offs or previously established dispersed sites. Roads may be rough; higher clearance vehicles recommended to reach secluded areas.
