Lickstone Dispersed Campsites are a collection of primitive roadside camping sites located along Forest Service Road 97 (Lickstone Ridge Road) in the remote western portion of the Pisgah Ranger District. Situated in the mountains of Haywood County, North Carolina, these sites offer a secluded backcountry experience for self-sufficient campers willing to navigate forest roads. As designated roadside camping sites under Pisgah Ranger District regulations, each site includes a cleared parking area, tent pad, and fire ring. However, this is strictly primitive camping with no developed facilities. Campers must bring their own water, pack out all trash, and be prepared for complete self-reliance. Camping is limited to 14 consecutive nights within any 30-day period. Access is significantly limited by seasonal road closures. FS Road 97 closes to motor vehicle traffic from January 2 through September 1 annually to protect wildlife habitat and reduce maintenance needs. Closure dates may fluctuate based on weather conditions. When open, the gravel road requires high-clearance vehicles and careful driving.

Lickstone Dispersed Campsites can be accessed via Forest Service roads within the National Forest. Use USFS road maps to locate eligible roadside pull-offs or previously established dispersed sites. Roads may be rough; higher clearance vehicles recommended to reach secluded areas.
