Low humidity, sunny to mostly sunny skies, unseasonably warm temperatures, very dry fuels, and breezy conditions will combine to result in Elevated Fire Danger this afternoon into early evening. Humidities will slowly recover but winds are forecast to persist through the overnight. Burning is not recommended as wildfire behavior could become erratic. Remember that Kentucky regulations make it illegal to burn between the hours of 6 AM and 6 PM within 150 feet of a woodland or brushland during the Spring Forest Fire Season that runs until April 30th.
About
Koomer Ridge Campground is located in the heart of the Red River Gorge on the Cumberland District of Daniel Boone National Forest. The campground offers 54 wooded campsites suitable for tent camping, with 19 sites that can accommodate RVs without hookups. The area provides scenic sweeping views and serves as a primary trailhead for exploring the Red River Gorge's extensive trail system. All campsites feature a picnic table and fire ring. The campground includes an amphitheater and bathhouse facilities. Accessible vault toilets are available year-round, while flush toilets and showers operate seasonally from April through October. Drinking water is also available during this same seasonal period. From the campground, visitors can access Hidden Arch Trail, Koomer Ridge Trail, Cliff Trail, and Silvermine Arch Trail, connecting to over 50 miles of trails throughout the Red River Gorge. The area is known for its untouched natural beauty, sandstone arches, and dramatic cliffs. Nearby attractions include NADA Tunnel, Natural Bridge, Sky Bridge, Clifty Wilderness, and Tater Knob.
