About

Lassen Creek Campground is a primitive, free camping area nestled in the remote northeastern corner of California within the Modoc National Forest. Unlike traditional campgrounds, this is open area camping with no designated sites. Rock fire rings are positioned throughout the area for campfire use, and vault toilets are available. The campground sits near the historically significant Glass Mountain obsidian mines, where Native Americans once collected volcanic glass for tool-making. The high desert landscape offers solitude and dark skies, though the remote location means campers must come fully prepared. No potable water is available, so visitors must bring sufficient water for drinking, cooking, washing, and extinguishing campfires. All trash must be packed out. Dogs are allowed but must remain on leash. The 14-day camping limit applies. The campground is currently under discussion for decommissioning.
